  • So Much To Do

I have been finding it very difficult to strap myself down and be a good boy staying at home, reading etc.  Granted I have been out much less due to various reasons, there are so many functions happening in Shanghai that it's very hard to sit still.  Right... twist my rubber arm.

Shanghai's an interesting city for expats because it seems that many of us are pretty much in tune with what's going on in the scene.  Also the fact that I work at a marketing company helps keep us in the loop of things.  Fashion shows, store openings, product launches, music concerts, club functions, there's something going on here every week.  Last night was a CD launch party at JA and some international DJ was at Fusion Club.  Tonight, Miss Sixty's launch party, and 2 anniversary parties.  Next Friday's party at Fusion, the Durex party, will be interesting too - Grand Prize, a one night stay / stand at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, one of the most prestigious in Shanghai.  It's also kinda funny, all these events we're invited too, open bar, free food etc.  It almost seems as if the more money you have the less you have to spend.  Why buy a bottle of wine when you can get plastered for freeeeeeeee!

So many people think China is such an exotic place.  Many don't notice just how modern things are in some cities here in China.  Granted there's still a ways to go, but walking into the subway labrynth after lunch the other day, I couldn't help but think how exciting things are here, and look forward to how much better things will be in the next few years!

    Shanghai's Downtown Area

Just look how cosmopolitan Shanghai is!  Buildings shooting up everywhere.  Cars all over the place.  Last week, the Shanghai municipal government decided to ban all bicycles on the major streets in Shanghai.  And events, events, events.  This Monday, Takuma Sato is coming to Shanghai for a press conference in advance of Team Honda's F1 event here next year.  2004 will definitely be a crazy year, the F1 is coming to Shanghai!!!

So when are YOU going to visit the Paris / NY of the East???

  • hehe, i went to china in 2001 and they were getting me all ready for culture shock, talking about how it's SO different from the U.S... and yeah i was in a sheltered little dorky tourist group (heh, a group of 40 americans in china, we didn't blend too well) but it wasn't so different as i was expecting it to be.  actually i was kind of disappointed by that.
