Okay, so my Rule of 10 idea was quite good in principle, but quite difficult to enforce.  I think the pic of that kid scared some people away from my site.  I'll have to push 5 weblogs through so that he can be relegated to the Next 5 >> pages.  Thank you Kirb for ensuring compliance.

The last couple of days have been quite hectic.  Our company has been endorsed by the organizing commitee of the Shanghai International Fashion Model Contest to promote, conceptualize and event manage the 9th annual Shanghai International Fashion Model Contest.  Eighty models - 40 from around the world, 40 from China - all to compete in a 3 night competition to include fine food, entertainment and the latest fashions to come into China.  Needless to say, this is quite a huge responsibility.  On top of trying to lure top fashion sponsors, we've got a potential audience of a couple hundred million to satisfy since the event will be broadcast nationwide during prime-time.

I've been trying to really get out there to meet people but it has been quite difficult due to lack of funds.  I still have to bar whore every once in a while.  I didn't buy a single drink last night at Pegasus and at Guandii.  I basically whored 3 glasses of some cheezy red wine, and 4 glasses of Moët & Chandon.  My wages finally go up starting November, so I won't have to resort to the lowly things that Marv has to do to get by month to month.

I've been spending the last 2 weeks or so madly looking for a place.  Renting a good place in Shanghai and not being ripped off by the locals is quite a difficult task.  Finding a decent place to rent in SH begins with going to a local area real estate agent and listing your demands.  Mine are the following:

    - fully furnished
    - must be close to subway (within 15 mins walk)
    - 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room
    - relatively newly renovated
    - roughly 100 square meters (and up)
    - ability to catch HK TV channels
    - ADSL Internet connection
    - roughly 4,000 RMB per month

My friend Andy and Shihwen spent 2 weeks looking before settling on a place for about 8,000 RMB.  They saw a total of about 60 - 70 places and had 7 agents working for them.  I have 4 agents working for me and have seen about 15 places so far.  I like this one place that's really pushing the budget at 4,500 RMB per month, very convenient location but a little smaller than 100 square meters.  It's fucked because the real estate agents are incentivised to get you to rent at a higher price.  Their commission is half a month's rent so the higher they can get you to pay, the more they get.

I want to get my place before next weekend so that I can have a housewarming party before my mom gets into town, she's planning to stay for a couple months!

Kazaa is the greatest thing in the world.  I've got all the episodes of Star Trek Enterprise downloaded, a couple of Crank Yankers and am currently working on Alias.  Spoonie Luv is the man.  Anything else I should be looking out for?  I'm so disconnected when it comes to Western pop culture now.

    Happy Birthday Gracie!

  • ummm...i didn't realize ppl in china owned tv's outside of HK, SH, and Peking   Sounds like a fun job.

2-bedrooms??!  what are you going to do with 2 bedrooms?  I have 2 bedrooms in my house here...I use one to dry laundry now that it's too cold to hang it outside...it also greatly reduces the chances of my panties and bras going missing...you know how the Japanese are

  • Kazaa doesn't have a lot of Japanese songs though.  wahhhhhhhhhh...I miss audio galaxy..it doesn't work anymore on my computer for some reason.

  • oooh alias, isnt there a dvd?

  • oh man, i would love to work in shanghai~!!

  • Nabiki, I don't blame the Japanese!  Bras and panties are cool, it's amazing how those two pieces of fabric can reduce a mature gentleman into a giddy schoolboy.  I think I shall write about this next time around...
